Jeremy, a seventh grader, quickly became the buzz of the Music Clubhouse after his amazing solo performance at a recent Boys & Girls Club Variety Show, an event which gives youth an opportunity to perform, building self-confidence and self-esteem.
Jeremy had a longtime interest in singing. He already had advanced to the top level of a prestigious choral group. When he left that program, the staff at the Boys & Girls Club encouraged Jeremy to check out the Music Clubhouse. He quickly became a regular at the Open Mic Nights.
After a few informal performances – including some of his own original songs – Jeremy agreed to perform at the upcoming Variety Show. This was a big leap for Jeremy– he had never performed solo for a large crowd. But at the Variety Show, when he sang “Miss Independent” by NeYo in front of more than 100 people, his performance captivated the audience!
After that event, Jeremy became even more motivated to attend the Music Clubhouse every day and to pursue every musical opportunity available to him. He set a goal to attend a performing arts high school and began working with the staff to chart his application deadlines and audition requirements. The staff also encouraged James to audition for a summer music program to further develop his impressive musical talents.
“Through the Music Clubhouse, Jeremy has recognized his incredible vocal talent and has focused on pursuing a music education in high school and beyond,” says the Music Clubhouse Director.
