Youth Leader Program provides many teens with their first job, teaching them leadership and the value of hard work.
Boston MA, July 21, 2016 — The Music & Youth Initiative was awarded a $25,000 grant from Bank of America to support the Youth Leader Program, a program that provides workforce opportunities to underserved teens within the setting of a Music Clubhouse.
Mishaliz, a Youth Leader since 2014, is a perfect example of the inspirational young adults who emerge from this Program. Mishaliz recently was invited to speak at the 2016 New England Women’s Leadership Awards. In her touching speech, she shared how her mentors at the Music Clubhouse “applaud my victories and have shown me that the challenges I have faced and the mistakes I have made have strengthened me.” In another essay, she reflects on the Youth Leader Program. “Thanks to this great opportunity,” says Mishaliz, “I have learned new skills that not only apply to the workforce but can also be used in personal situations.”
The Bank of America 2016 Workforce Development and Education Grant will fund Youth Leader positions at 16 Music Clubhouses in Eastern Massachusetts during current Spring, Summer, and upcoming Fall sessions. Each Youth Leader, selected for his or her exceptional dedication and leadership qualities, will teach and mentor youth participants at the Music Clubhouse. Additionally, the Youth Leaders will develop workforce skills as employees of their Youth Development Organizations (such as Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCAs).
“We’re truly honored to be repeat recipients of this generous grant from Bank of America,” says Gary Eichhorn, CEO of Music & Youth. “The talented teens in the Youth Leader Program are developing vital skills that will help them wherever life takes them.”
Bank of America, along with several other grant providers to the Youth Leader Program, make it possible for Music & Youth and its Youth Development Organization partners to offer these valuable employment opportunities for youth.
