Music and Youth Initiative's vision is to develop and fund after-school music education and enrichment programs. Our programs give young people in underserved urban communities the opportunity to build self-confidence and interpersonal skills, as well as foster an appreciation of music. In this newsletter, we would like to share some of the great programs being offered by our clubhouses, and some stories of how the Music Clubhouse is making an impact on the kids. As our two existing clubhouses continue to do great things, we are in the planning stages for opening two new clubhouses in 2007! Please visit our website at www.musicand youth.org

LMC Clubhouse Idol
The first Clubhouse Idol competition at the Lawrence Music Clubhouse was a great success. There were some tense moments as kids performed to a packed house of family and friends. Everyone was a winner as they worked hard and were rewarded by the applause of the audience.

WEH Learning Scratch
The West End House Music Clubhouse is in full swing only six months after opening its doors. With over 700 visits each month, the program's popularity has soared!

Examples of the many programs WEH Music Clubhouse offers are "Zebras" (beginning piano), "The Beat Masons" (Midi Computer Recording) and "Stars" (Guitar Workshop). As best summed up by one of the regulars: "I like to come to the music room because my happiness is music, therefore I'm always happy when I'm here. I love listening to music, playing bass and piano and everything. I love the diversity of the music you can find. I just really love it here, it's full of life."

Here are just a few quotes from the kids...

"I'm feeling the music in my heart; it's my dream, my future, my passion."

" The Music Clubhouse is really fun! I get to see my friends, I get to play music."

And from a Parent: "We are truly grateful for the support and investment that the staff has made. Their time, dedication and constant encouragement helped my daughter to learn how to use the equipment, build her self-confidence, create awesome masterpieces and get excited about her musical future."
Tom Hamilton
We are very pleased to announce that we have two new board members.

Tom Hamilton, Bass Player for Aerosmith, is a world class musician who has a passion for helping kids reach their potential through music.

Bob Fleming, Venture Capitalist and amateur Jazz Pianist, has been involved for many years in programs to provide opportunities for Youth.

We are very excited about the positive impact our first two clubhouses are having in their communities, and are looking forward to expanding our program in 2007 and beyond. Thanks to the generous support of our donors and partners, we are working on opening two additional Music Clubhouses in 2007. We very much appreciate your support as we work to give kids an opportunity to learn music and build the life skills they need to succeed.
