Key Partnership with Berklee College Of Music Provides Critical              Resources for Music Clubhouses

Boston, MA, September 2008

In addition to the generous financial support of our donors, we are very fortunate to be working
very closely with Berklee College of Music, the world leader in contemporary music education,
to make the Music Clubhouse program a success.

We thought you would be interested in a better understanding of the many facets of this
relationship and the impact of this key partnership.

Music & Youth and Berklee Shared Vision

Music Mentors and Teachers

As a key element of our partnership, Berklee pays student employees through its
Community Service Work-Study Program to work at the Clubhouses. These
students assist the Music Clubhouse directors in teaching classes, mentoring and
providing role models to the young people in the Music Clubhouse program.

On-going Operational Support

Berklee also provides equipment to the Music Clubhouses including instruments
and recording equipment. This gives our Music Clubhouse members an opportunity
to work with state of the art tools as they learn how to play and perform.

Berklee also provides on-going advice and support for the Music Clubhouses through
regular reviews at each Music Clubhouse. Recently, Berklee hosted a Music
Clubhouse directors meeting where the four Music Clubhouse directors shared
their experiences.

Scholarship Opportunities

For nearly 20 years, Berklee has been reaching inner city youth with their City
Music Program which provides an opportunity for young people to study music at Berklee. Music & Youth is proud to sponsor a scholarship for a qualified Music Clubhouse member each year to attend the City Music summer program

Both Berklee and Music & Youth believe that music is a powerful vehicle for changing lives. Berklee has an expressed goal of reaching out to under served youth in Boston and across the country to give them the opportunity to learn and perform music, and in the process, to build self confidence, teamwork skills and a sense of accomplishment.

"Berklee is proud of all that has been accomplished through the partnership with the Music and Youth Initiative. The Clubhouse movement provides a tremendous opportunity for our students, faculty, staff and alumni to gain valuable skills and participate in the musical development of young people and empowerment of our communities." said James McCoy, Director, Community and Governmental Affairs at Berklee

This year, our first scholarship award winner, Eddy from the Lawrence Music Clubhouse, attended the summer program. For the concert at the conclusion of the program, over 40 Lawrence Music Clubhouse members and family and friends came to cheer Eddy on as he played guitar!

We look forward to continuing and strengthening our partnership with Berklee. We are proud to be working with this world class educational institution to bring after school music education to under served young people. Both organizations feel passionately, that music clubhouse members will greatly benefit from the opportunity to learn and perform music...it truly can change a life!
