First Ever Music Clubhouse-Wide Idol Competition!!
Imagine the excitement of the top eight vocalists from four of our Music
Clubhouses coming together to compete for the title of Music Cluhbouse-Wide
Idol! Add to that the thrill of competing at the Berklee College of Music's David
Friend Performance Center! Imagine the audience of over 150 family and friends
representing the Music Clubhouses across the four communities they serve, and
you have a recipe for a great event!!!
For the Idol winners - a whole week of fun and learning
In April, four of our clubhouses held a Music Clubhouse-wide Idol competition,
which brought together the best vocalists in their programs. For the first time
ever, Music & Youth sponsored a Clubhouse Idol competion, bringing together
the top vocalists from all four clubhouses.
The week before the competition, the Idol participants had the opportunity to spend the day at the Berklee College of Music. Top Berklee professors coached them on their vocalizaton, performance techniques, and wardrobe selection. It was a great opportunity for young people from various backgrounds and communities to join together for a rewarding and fun day.
The Clubhouse-Wide Idol Participants!
Each of the eight Idol participants had already passed a big hurdle by placing first or second in their local Music Clubhouse Idol competition.
For the Clubhouse-wide Idol Competition, four judges rated each performer on areas such as stage presence, creativity (did they make the song their own) and vocal technique.
The three top winners ranged in age from 10 years old to 15 years old! Their amazing performances and poise were an inspiration to the audience and to all of the participants. It was particularly powerful to see the support all of the participants gave to each other during the competition and the spontaneous outpouring of congratulations for the winners!
We hope the Clubhouse-Wide Idol Competition will become an annual event!
Thank you to the Music Clubhouses and the Music Clubhouse directors who coodinated their local Clubhouse Idol events and helped with the Clubhouse-wide Idol. They are Rick Aggeler - Blue Hill Music Clubhouse, David Szebeda - HSTF Music Clubhouse and David Bickel - Lawrence Music Clubhosue.
A special thank you to Corey Goldsmith - director of the West End House Music Clubhouse, for both coordinating his local event and managing the Clubhouse-wide Idol event!
The Idol participants also had the rare treat of attending the 25th Annual Berklee Singer Showcase, where the top Berklee vocal students gave a dynamite performance. It was both an inspiration watching these talented students, and a chance for the eight Idol participants to begin to develop friendships that crossed the barriers between different ethnicities and geographies. A pizza party before the performance was an extra treat!
