The Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester music program won a 2016 Merit Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and traveled to the National Conference in New Orleans to accept their award and cash prize. “For me this award is very special,” says Music Clubhouse Director, Ayeisha Mathis. “This kind of National recognition allows our youth members to become familiar with the reward of diligence. They now have a sense of accomplishment and are even more driven to set goals in their lives with the confidence that those goals are attainable! I am extremely proud of our hard work!

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester also hosted the 23rd Annual New England Women’s Leadership Awards on May 11, 2016.

The keynote address at this prestigious event was given by Music Clubhouse Youth Leader, Mishaliz. In her touching speech, Misha explained that her mentors at the Music Clubhouse “applaud my victories and have shown me that the challenges I have faced and the mistakes I have made have strengthened me.” She continues on to say that through her leadership role at the Music Clubhouse, she feels “encouraged to go after [her] dreams.” She’ll be doing exactly that when she attends an esteemed University in the Fall, studying Criminal Justice.
