New Organization created - Music & Youth Initiative
Creating after school Music Programs for Underserved Urban Youth
January 23, 2004 Boston MA
The Music & Youth Initiative announced its formation as a nonprofit organization that sponsors Music Clubhouses for underserved urban youth. The mission of the Music & Youth Initiative is to positively influence the lives of the clubhouse members using music as the vehicle. Music & Youth’s vision is to work with world class youth development organizations and universities to collectively leverage their skills and financial support in order to to touch the lives of thousands of young people through the creation of a world-wide network of Music Clubhouses. Music & Youth envisions that the Music Clubhouses will share best practices but will be tailored to the specific needs and cultures of their local communities.
“Our first task will be to select a youth development organization in a local community where we can launch a pilot study to determine the need for this kind of program. We would like to get feedback from the young people, parents and professional educators in the community in order to assess the potential impact of this type of program and to fine tune our approach”, said Gary Eichhorn, the Executive Director of the Music and Youth Initiative. “We look forward to sharing the results of that study in the coming months”.
Gary Eichhorn will serve as both Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of the Music and Youth Initiative. Gary has been an executive in a number of large and small technology companies. He has also served on the board of Information Technology and Medical Device companies. Gary is an amateur Jazz guitarist.
In addition to Gary Eichhorn, Music and Youth Initiative is pleased to announce three founding members of the board of directors. Mark Duffy is an entrepreneur and amateur guitarist who has served as a CFO, CEO and a consultant to a number of technology companies. Joan Eichhorn will serve as Secretary and Treasurer of the board.
